8770w DreamColor

Actually I have questions and I really hope that you can help me guys!

I have HP 8770w with non-DreamColor (B173HW02 v.1), nvidia quadro k3000 and as you guess I would like to upgade it to DreamColor (LP173WF3-SLB3/SLB2);-)
I found that it possible with color decoder STDP8028 and cables, am I right?
The problem is I can't find the cables I need, could you help me in this issue? I just found two cables for 8540w (MB - decoder - LCD), and one for 8760w (MB - decoder) but I guess I can't use it...
Where I can find cables for 8770w (MB - decoder - LCD), what the serial number I need?

Now I'm trying to find it on taobao.com, maybe you know some different place?

Back to your question, yes you're right, the 8770w DreamColor display is equipped with panel LP173WF3-SLB3, and also color mapping board (STDP8028) w/ cables connecting to both panel and mainboard ports.

The cable applied between panel and color mapping board is usually the same and compatible on all systems, the one from 15.6in module may be a little shorter in length if used on 17.3in module, but it can work.

The other cable applied between mainboard and color mapping board is not compatible with each other on different computer modules, especially 8740w's cable can not be used on 8760w's for example. This is because some pins are absolutely different in pin order.

I do not know the exact P/N # of 8770w's cable.
But there might be a chance to modify the 8760w's cable and use it on 8770w.

The different between 8760w and 8770w is the second one does not have ALS module. More information you may refer to a previous discussion in below link.

sorry i see invalid link in your post.

the cable for 8540w may be shorter than the one on 8760w, but they're compatible.
it is recommanded to use the original cable.

Could you explain me what shoul I do with 8760w cable, as I undestand the 8770w doesn't have 1 pin, am I right?

1, LP173WF3 SLB3 and SLB4 is used on 8770w officially, although I personally think SLB2 is still OK technically.

2, 8760w is equiped with 'Ambient Light Sensor' but 8770w is not, so the cable is different. But you may mod and use it on 8770w if you have a 8760w cable.

I here simply quote the image of 8760w/8770w DC cable comparison. (image is not available in translator mode browsing.)


Above one is for 8760w, below one is for 8770w.

You may see that PIN #18 (ALS signal)is not connected on 8770w, so it should be applicable to mod it by removing/pluging out pin 18 from the connector.

1. SLB2 or ide0ally SLB3 and SLB4 panel
2. Decode board (same 8770w or 8760w)
3. Tweaked 8760w cable, as I never see any 8770w on sold.

I work with that two scheme. There is also difference in 8760w scheme there is AND logic gate and it is indicated of integrated circuit U6 TC7SZ08FU. So I would say there is no option that cable rom 8760w will work. I also try modified pins and lack of results.

Hi everyone! Since notebookreview forums are no longer active, I have failed to find enough information for the upgrade.
I purchased all necessary parts:
-STDP8028 decoder with 8570w cable (Decoder to display)
-LP173WF3-SLB3 panel
-6017B0352401 cable for 8770w (MB to decoder)

I never got the screen to work, not even backlight.
Today, backlight worked, but the screen stayed black and there was a loud beep, like in the video above. After I turned it off, I never had that again, now it's just not doing anything at all.

1 - What do you think is the problem? Out of all parts, only the decoder cable is not made for 8770w, but the 8570w variant appears to simply be the same but shorter.

2 - Does anyone have the schematic for the cables? I suspect the MB to display cable has some missing connections.
